No, registration and use of the service are free. You only pay the service fee when you withdraw your salary.
Both are ways of being self-employed. Light entrepreneurship is a form of self-employment in which you operate as a private individual through an invoicing service. A light entrepreneur can work without a company of their own and invoice the work they’ve done through the invoicing service. The light entrepreneur is only responsible for sending the invoice through PalkkaOnline. As a sole trader, you set up your own business and get a business ID. You’re entitled to deduct business purchases in your taxation. Setting up a sole trader business creates a company, which brings the entrepreneur more responsibility and commitment.
For accounting and taxation purposes, you are an employee. Under the Unemployment Security Act, however, a light entrepreneur is treated as an entrepreneur.
As a light entrepreneur, you may still be eligible for so-called adjusted daily allowance if your entrepreneurial activity is considered to be a secondary occupation.
As regards pension insurance, you fall under YEL. You must take out YEL insurance if the criteria for the insurance obligation apply to you.
By using the invoicing service, you accept and confirm that you are not in an employment relationship with your client within the meaning of the Employment Contracts Act.
Any amount, no matter how small. We have no minimum amount you can invoice. So you can invoice through us for, say, a short cleaning gig. Please note that when you withdraw your salary, our minimum service fee is €10.
You can also invoice private individuals through PalkkaOnline. The person ordering the work may be able to get the household expenses tax credit for the work portion, if the tax authority’s requirements are met.
Your salary is available for withdrawal one day after your client has paid the invoice. When you make a salary withdrawal request through our system before 3 p.m., the salary is in your account on the next business day.
No worries. If you wish, we’ll also take care of invoice collection.
Yes. Since 1 May 2017, users of invoicing services have been classified as entrepreneurs for pension insurance purposes. This means that if your annual earned income exceeds the minimum threshold for YEL insurance, you must have YEL insurance.
- Your earned income from business activity is at least €9,423.09 in 2026 (€9,208.43 in 2025).
- The business activity continues for at least four months
- The entrepreneur is 18–67 years old
We’ve made taking out YEL insurance as effortless as possible, and you can conveniently handle your YEL insurance through us.
Your ability to receive unemployment benefit as a light entrepreneur depends on how extensive your work as a light entrepreneur is. If you are unemployed and receive earnings-related or basic daily allowance, you may lose your right to unemployment benefit if you become employed full-time as a light entrepreneur. The decision on full-time status is always made by the employment authority.
You can find more information about a light entrepreneur’s unemployment security on the YTK website, for example.
Most fields are suitable for light entrepreneurship. Check whether your field is suitable in the PalkkaOnline service or contact our customer service.
YEL insurance must be taken out when your annual earned income exceeds the minimum threshold set by law. The price of the insurance depends on the amount of your earned income and the coverage of the insurance.
Advance salary: You can withdraw your salary before the client pays. Includes the express salary feature at no extra cost.
